Registration (and practice) for the Simley Youth Traveling Wrestling program is Tuesday, January 26th at 6:30pm. This will be held outside the Simley wrestling room.

This program is also for middle school wrestlers. All middle school wrestlers who want to continue wrestling should come to register.

 Registration form For those of you that know you are going to the ASICS USAW Kids Folkstyle National Championships, March 31st - April 3rd, hotels are already booking up fast. Estelle contacted the Ramada Inn in Waterloo, IA & blocked rooms for Simley Wrestling. Please don't wait! Call to reserve your rooms now. Weigh-ins are first thing Thursday morning, April 1st for the Juniors & Cadets so she blocked 10 rooms for Wednesday night, March 31st. The rest of the age groups weigh-in on Friday morning, April 2nd so you'll want to reserve for Thursday night & Friday night, April 1st & 2nd. Estelle has blocked 15 rooms for those two nights. Simley had 24 wrestlers compete at the folkstyle nationals. 15 wrestlers placed in the top eight at their weight classes. This is the most All-Americans that Simley has ever had.

Bantam Division:
Ravin Jackson won the USA national championship at Bantam 70. Ravin won 3 matches and pinned his opponent in the finals to win his first national title. Greg Kerkvliet won 3 matches and won the Bantam 75+ weight class for his first USA folkstyle national championship. Simley had Ryan Sokol (50 lbs) and Travis Dohmen (60 lbs) both participate in the tournament.

Intermediate Division:
Jake Gliva (60 lbs) went 6-1 and placed third in the national championship. Anthony Jackson (65 lbs) went 3-2 and lost in the placing round. Brad Dohmen (70 lbs) participated in the tournament.

Novice Division:
Lorenzo Torres (100 lbs) went 5-2 and placed 4th in his weight class. Jack Ryan (120 lbs) went 2-3 and placed 6th in his weight class. Aaron Hingst (60 lbs) went 1-2 and did not place.

Schoolboy Division:
Kyle Nordstrom (77 lbs) went 3-2 and lost in the placing round. Kyle Gliva (91 lbs) went 5-1 and placed 2nd at his weight class. Mack Short (91 lbs) went 4-3 and placed 8th at his weight class. Zach Rivera (112 lbs) lost in the first round and then won 5 matches in a row to place 8th he finished 5-3. Brandt Olson (190 lbs) went 2-3 and placed 6th.

Cadet Division:
Juan Torres (112 lbs) went 2-2 and lost to the eventual champ 9-7. Pedro Delao (112 lbs) went 3-2 and lost in the placing round 7-6. Jake Short (119 lbs) went 5-2 and placed 4th at his weight class. Dan Dick (135 lbs) went 4-1 and placed 2nd in his weight. Nick Wanzek (140 lbs) went 4-3 and placed 8th. Micah Barnes went 1-2 and was eliminated in double overtime by Wanzek.

Junior Division:
Dylan Wright (119 lbs) went 4-2 and placed 7th. Cola Jansen (119 lbs) went 3-3 and placed 8th. Torrie Morgan (189 lbs) went 3-3 and placed 8th.

Here are the results from the 2009 Gopher State Championships held this weekend (February 7th & 8th). This is one of the premiere youth tournaments held in Minnesota. The Simley Youth had 15 participants with 11 place winners. Jake Gliva, Daniel Kerkvliet, Kyle Nordstrom and Lorenzo Torres all captured championships.
