State Championships are won in the off-season!

Kids and Cadets Greco Roman and Freestyle State
Kids:
Kyle Gliva wins 3rd Triple Crown. Kyle Gliva was definitely the star of Minnesota wrestling this weekend. Kyle went 11-0 on the weekend at Schoolboy 91 lbs. Kyle won both the Greco Roman and Freestyle state titles. Kyle won the Folkstyle tournament in March. This is the third year in a row that Kyle has won the Triple Crown. Kyle has won 9 state championships in a row in the three different styles at MN/USA Wrestling. Congratulations to Kyle on his hard work and dedication to the sport of wrestling.

Ryan Sokel placed 6th place in Greco Roman tournament at Bantam 50 lbs and finished 4th place in Freestyle. Ravin Jackson went 3-0 on the weekend winning the Greco and Freestyle state championships at Bantam 70 lbs. Jake Gliva went 4-1 and placed 5th in Greco-Roman on Friday. The following day Gliva came back and won the Freestyle state tournament at Intermediate 60 lbs going 5-0. Jake Gliva finished the tournament 9-1. Anthony Jackson placed 6th place in the Greco Roman and then came back with a strong performance in Freestyle and finished 5th. Mack Short competed at Schoolboy 91 lbs. Mack placed 6th place in the Greco Roman tournament. On Saturday, Mack went 4-1 and placed 3rd in Freestyle.

Cadets:
Juan Torres competed at the 112 lbs weight class. Juan went 3-1 in Greco and placed 3rd. Juan went 4-1 in Freestyle and placed 3rd. Juan finished the tournament 7-2. Jake Short competed at the 125 lbs weight class. Jake went 3-1 in Greco Roman and placed 2nd. Jake went 5-0 in Freestyle and had a big win over state champion Ben Morgan. Jake finished the tournament 8-1. Dan Dick continued his winning ways at the 135 lbs weight class. Dan went 5-0 in Greco and beat Brandon Kingsley on his way to the state title. Dan placed 2nd in Freestyle. Dan finished the tournament 10-1. Nick Wanzek proved this weekend that he is the best 140 lbs Cadet in the state. Nick went 4-0 in Greco Roman and 5-0 in Freestyle. Nick finished 9-0 and was a double champ in both Greco and Freestyle. Micah Barnes moved up a weight class and placed 5th in the Greco Roman state tournament. Micah had a tough draw in Freestyle losing to the state champ 2-1, 1-0 and the third place finisher 0-1, 3-0, 0-2. Micah will be a force at Cadet Nationals at this weight class in July.

Cola Jensen & Mic Berg Champions at Junior State Freestyle
The Simley Wrestling Club was well represented at the MN USA Junior State Freestyle tournament at Augsburg on April 26th. Cola Jensen, who continues to improve, won the 119lbs weight class going 4-0. Cola was a state freestyle champion last year as a cadet and has now made it two in a row. Dylan Wright placed 2nd at 119lbs. Tommy Glenn had a great weekend winning the Greco tournament on Saturday and then placing 2nd on Sunday in Freestyle. Tommy continues to train and improve. Jack Barnes wrestled at 160lbs and went 2-2. Kurtis Julson was wrestling at 171lbs and won 3 and lost 2. Mic Berg continues to prove he is one of the best wrestlers in the state. Coming off his All-American performance at Senior Nationals, Mic won the 189lbs tournament going 6-0. Alex Lashomb competed at HWT and won 2 and lost 2 and finished 5th place. This was Alex's first freestyle tournament of his career. Charlie Gelhaye competed at HWT and placed 3rd in Greco and then placed 6th in freestyle. This was one of Simley's best performances at Junior State in recent years. Congratulations to all the wrestlers and keep on training.
